Arizona Motorcycle Permit: Road Signs & Signals Practice Test

Not quite. The answer is Passing on the left is permitted when the way ahead is clear.

This image indicates that passing on the left is permitted when the way ahead is clear. Overtaking and passing should be done with care because of oncoming traffic.

Not quite. The answer is Sharp right turn

This sign indicates that the road ahead turns sharply to the right. Slow down and use caution.

Not quite. The answer is A stop sign

This regulatory sign is a stop sign. At a stop sign, you must stop before the stop line, crosswalk, or intersection, whichever you arrive at first. Then yield to pedestrians and other vehicles, and proceed only when the intersection is clear. You must stop near the sign and yield the right-of-way to other vehicles.

Not quite. The answer is There is a low place in the road ahead.

This sign indicates that there is a low place in the road ahead. Slow down for your comfort and to maintain control. Proceed with caution and be ready to stop if the dip is filled with water.

Not quite. The answer is You may go straight or turn right.

This is a regulatory sign that directs you to go straight or make a right turn.

Not quite. The answer is a stop sign.

A stop sign is an eight-sided white-on-red sign, indicating that other traffic has the right-of-way. You must always bring your vehicle to a complete stop and yield to approaching traffic before proceeding.

Not quite. The answer is You must not drive on the railroad tracks.

A red slash inside a red circle means "no." This sign means that you are not allowed to drive on the railroad tracks.

Not quite. The answer is lodging is available.

This is a service sign. Drivers are advised to use lodging facilities if needed.

Not quite. The answer is A speed zone is ahead; prepare to reduce your speed to 45 mph.

The larger sign tells you that a speed zone is ahead. The smaller sign indicates what the speed limit will be. In this case, the speed limit will decrease to 45 mph ahead. Prepare to slow down so you won't exceed that speed limit.

Not quite. The answer is A railroad crossing ahead

This railroad crossing signal has a bell and flashing red lights to warn that a train is coming. Stop when the bell is ringing and the lights are flashing.

Not quite. The answer is A pedestrian crossing is ahead; vehicles must yield.

This figure means that a pedestrian crosswalk is ahead. Drivers must yield to pedestrians.

Not quite. The answer is Pedestrians may enter the crosswalk.

Pedestrian signals are only for controlling pedestrian traffic. This signal showing a person walking tells pedestrians that they may enter the crosswalk to cross the roadway. (Older signals had the word "WALK" illuminated instead.) A signal showing an upraised hand tells pedestrians that they may not enter the crosswalk. (Older signals had the words "DONT WALK" illuminated instead.)

Not quite. The answer is The maximum speed limit at night is 45 mph.

This sign means that the maximum speed limit at night is 45 mph.

Not quite. The answer is a speed limit sign on expressways.

A speed limit sign indicates the legal maximum speed allowed on the expressway under ideal driving conditions.

Not quite. The answer is Left turns are allowed when the steady green signal is lit and there are no oncoming vehicles.

This sign is usually posted at an intersection that has a combination of signals, including a green arrow that points left. When the green arrow is lit, you may make a left turn as a protected turn; oncoming traffic will be stopped at a red light. This sign indicates that when the green arrow goes out and a steady green light comes on, you may still make a left turn, but now you'll have to yield to oncoming vehicles before you turn.

Not quite. The answer is You are not allowed to enter.

This sign indicates that you cannot enter the roadway on which the sign is posted.

Not quite. The answer is vehicles must not exceed the posted speed limit of 40 mph.

This sign shows that the speed limit is 40 mph. This is the maximum speed you can travel under ideal conditions.

Not quite. The answer is Vehicles traveling in either direction can make left turns.

The center lane is reserved for making left turns (or U-turns, when they are permitted) and can be used by vehicles traveling in either direction. On the pavement, left-turn arrows for traffic in one direction alternate with left-turn arrows for traffic in the opposite direction. These lanes are marked on each side by solid and broken (dashed) yellow lines.

Not quite. The answer is You are 444 miles from the state line or the end of this road.

Mileposts are located at regular intervals so that drivers will always be in sight of one. They are placed along the edge of the roadway to give drivers information about their locations on the highway for navigational and emergency purposes. The number on the milepost usually indicates the distance in miles to the state line or the end of the road.

Not quite. The answer is a low ground clearance railroad crossing.

This sign indicates a low ground clearance railroad crossing. The railroad crossing is raised so high that a vehicle with a long wheelbase or low ground clearance can get stuck on the tracks. This type of railroad crossing should not normally present a problem for a car driver unless he or she is pulling a trailer or driving a motor home with a low ground clearance.
