How we write our questions

What goes into every practice question in Driving Exam Prep, and how we keep it accurate.

Where the questions come from

Our questions are written from official sources: each US state's driver handbook, the federal CDL standards from the FMCSA, The Highway Code and GOV.UK guidance in the UK, and the official MTO Driver's Handbook in Ontario.

Each state has its own question set, because each state has its own rules and its own test. CDL questions follow the federal standards that every state uses.

How the explanations work

Every question comes with an explanation of the right answer, so you learn the rule rather than memorize an answer. Many explanations also name the handbook section they come from, so you can read more in the official source.

How we keep test facts current

Each test page lists the official facts: the number of questions, the pass mark, any time limit and the minimum age, with a link to the agency's own page and the date those facts were last updated.

Agencies change their rules from time to time. If the official page says something different from ours, the official page is right, so always check before your test.

Practice, not the real test

Our questions are written for practice. They are not the real test questions, and your real test may ask things differently. We recommend studying your official handbook alongside the app.

Driving Exam Prep is an independent study app. It isn't affiliated with any DMV, the FMCSA, the DVSA, the Ontario MTO, DriveTest or any other government agency.
